Terms & Conditions
These Terms & Conditions apply to all Open Shell Adventures 4WD camper hires booked via Camplify.
1. General & Booking Conditions +
1.1 All bookings, payments, bonds and insurance options are completed through Camplify. By booking our vehicles you agree to both these Terms & Conditions and Camplify’s Terms of Use and insurance conditions.
1.2 The hirer must be at least 21 years old and hold a full, valid driver’s licence accepted in Australia. Additional drivers must meet the same criteria and be approved within Camplify.
1.3 Minimum hire period is generally 3 days. Peak periods, public holidays and special events may have longer minimum hire requirements as shown on Camplify.
1.4 One-way hires are not permitted. Vehicles must be returned to the agreed drop-off location in Perth, WA, on the agreed date and time.
1.5 The person named as the primary hirer on the Camplify booking is responsible for all fees, charges, tolls, fines, damages and obligations under this agreement.
2. Kilometres, Fuel & Vehicle Use +
Included Kilometres & Excess Kms
- 2.1 Your hire includes 300 km per day as standard.
- 2.2 Any distance driven above this allowance is charged at $0.25 per km.
- 2.3 An Unlimited KM upgrade may be available as a paid add-on, subject to approval and listing details on Camplify.
Fuel
- 2.4 The vehicle is supplied with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with a full tank (“full-to-full” policy).
- 2.5 If the vehicle is returned without a full tank, fuel plus a refuelling fee may be charged.
General Use
- 2.6 The vehicle must be used in a safe, responsible manner and in accordance with all Australian road rules and local laws.
- 2.7 Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reckless driving, towing without permission, or using the vehicle for commercial or race purposes is strictly prohibited.
3. Cleaning, Damage & Tyre Policy +
Cleaning
- 3.1 The vehicle must be returned in a reasonably clean condition inside and out (no excessive sand, mud, stains or strong odours).
- 3.2 Where extra cleaning is required, cleaning charges will apply. Guideline amounts (subject to change and as listed in Camplify Optional Extras) include:
- • Clean the van incl. toilet – approx. $225
- • Clean the chemical toilet – approx. $130
- • Clean the V-Lane X toilet – approx. $149
- • Outback trip clean (excluding toilet) – approx. $299
- 3.3 If the vehicle is returned with excessive red dust, mud, sand or other contamination, additional cleaning may be charged beyond the above guideline amounts.
Damage & Tyres
- 3.4 The hirer is responsible for any damage to the vehicle, tyres, windscreen, accessories and included equipment, subject to the insurance and excess option selected at time of booking.
- 3.5 Tyre punctures, sidewall damage and blowouts caused during the hire are the responsibility of the hirer unless otherwise covered by the selected insurance policy.
- 3.6 Any damage must be reported to Open Shell Adventures and Camplify as soon as reasonably practicable, with photos and details.
4. Pets, Smoking & Behaviour +
Pets
- 4.1 Pets are not automatically allowed. Pets are only permitted with prior written approval from Open Shell Adventures and may attract an additional pet fee.
- 4.2 Where pets are approved, the hirer is responsible for ensuring the vehicle and rooftop tent are kept clean and free from pet hair, odours and damage.
- 4.3 Any additional cleaning or damage caused by pets will be charged to the hirer.
Smoking & Vaping
- 4.4 No smoking or vaping is permitted inside the vehicle, rooftop tent or any enclosed awnings.
- 4.5 Smoking is only permitted outside, away from the vehicle and tent, and in accordance with local fire bans and regulations.
- 4.6 Evidence of smoking or vaping inside (including odour, burns, ash or residue) will incur additional cleaning and deodorising fees.
Behaviour
- 4.7 The hirer must not engage in any behaviour that risks damage to the vehicle, equipment, environment or other road users.
- 4.8 The hirer is responsible for all passengers and their behaviour in connection with the hire.
5. Travel Areas, Roads & Restrictions +
Road Types
- 5.1 Vehicles may be driven on:
- • Sealed (bitumen) roads; and
- • Well-maintained unsealed/gravel roads that are legally open to the public.
- 5.2 Very rough, technical 4WD tracks, rock crawling, deep mud, dune climbing and similar high-risk activities are not permitted.
Beach Driving & Saltwater
- 5.3 Beach driving is only permitted on legal, gazetted beaches in suitable conditions and in line with local regulations.
- 5.4 Driving through saltwater or below the high-tide mark is strictly forbidden. Any saltwater damage, corrosion or contamination will be at the full cost of the hirer.
Remote & Iconic Tracks
- 5.5 Travel to very remote regions or iconic tracks (for example, Canning Stock Route and similar) is not automatically permitted.
- 5.6 Any such trips require prior written approval from Open Shell Adventures, appropriate preparation and may require travelling in convoy with at least one additional capable support vehicle.
- 5.7 The hirer is responsible for obtaining any required permits and checking current road and weather conditions.
6. Breakdowns, Incidents & Insurance +
Breakdowns & Roadside Assistance
- 6.1 Roadside assistance details will be provided in your Camplify booking and/or during handover.
- 6.2 In the event of a breakdown, follow roadside assistance instructions and contact Open Shell Adventures and Camplify as soon as reasonably practicable.
Accidents & Incidents
- 6.3 In any serious incident or accident, ensure everyone is safe and contact emergency services if required (000 in Australia).
- 6.4 As soon as safe to do so, notify Open Shell Adventures and Camplify and provide photos, details, third-party information and police reports (if applicable).
Insurance & Excess
- 6.5 Insurance is arranged through Camplify. The level of cover and applicable excess depends on the option you select at booking.
- 6.6 The hirer is responsible for any excess, additional costs or exclusions as set out in Camplify’s insurance terms and our Accident Excess information page.
- 6.7 Misuse of the vehicle, off-limits travel, illegal activity or breach of these Terms may result in claims being declined or excess increasing.
7. Cancellations, Changes & Late Returns +
Cancellations & Changes
- 7.1 Cancellations and booking changes are handled within Camplify and are subject to Camplify’s cancellation policy and the terms shown in our listings.
- 7.2 Where possible we will work with you to adjust dates or options, but changes are subject to availability and may incur additional charges.
Late Returns
- 7.3 The vehicle must be returned by the agreed time. Late returns impact our ability to prepare for the next hirer.
- 7.4 Significant late returns may be charged at up to an additional daily hire rate, plus any associated costs or losses.
- 7.5 If you are running late, you must notify us as soon as possible to discuss options.
8. Fees, Bonds & Other Charges +
- 8.1 A security bond is held by Camplify in accordance with their terms. Release times are controlled by Camplify, not Open Shell Adventures.
- 8.2 Additional charges may apply for (but not limited to):
- • Excess kilometres;
- • Fuel shortfall;
- • Cleaning and detailing (including red dust, sand and pet-related cleaning);
- • Damage to vehicle, tyres, windscreen, accessories or equipment;
- • Tolls, fines, infringements and recovery costs;
- • Late return and unauthorised travel to restricted areas.
- 8.3 By proceeding with a booking you authorise these charges to be deducted from your bond or otherwise charged via Camplify as permitted.
9. Acceptance of Terms +
By confirming a booking with Open Shell Adventures via Camplify, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions, together with all applicable Camplify terms, policies and insurance conditions.
